Ipswich were the Second Division Champions, Oxford United won the Third Division and Luton Town won the Fourth Division. Peterborough were relegated from the Third Dision after having 19 points deducted for making irregular bonus payments to players.

West Bromwich Albion defeated Everton to win the first FA Cup Final.

George Best was voted Football Writers' Association and European Player of the Year.

Matt Busby's Manchester United became the first English team to win the European Cup. Leeds United added the Inter Cities Fairs Cup to their League Cup win that season.
