National Football Museum European Hall of Fame event features in ITV Brian Clough documentary
In a documentary about Brian Clough first broadcast on ITV1 on 29 March 2009 to coincide with the launch of the new film The Damned United, Brian Clough's family show how much the National Football Museum European Hall of Fame award meant to them.
The documentary featured footage from the night at ACC Liverpool that the Museum co-ordinated in October 2008 as part of Liverpool Capital of Culture celebrations. Brian Clough was selected as one of the five greatest managers from the English game, based on performance in Europe, alongside Sir Matt Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson, Bob Paisley and Sir Bobby Robson. The film shows interviews with Brian Clough's sons Nigel and Simon on arrival at the event, Nigel Clough and John McGovern (Clough's captain) on stage accepting the award for his father and an off-stage reminiscence between Nigel Clough and Sir Alex Ferguson. The film also shows some of the other great names attending the event, including Michel Platini, John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish.
On receiving the award Nigel Clough said of his father: "He would have felt very humbled being in this company, which for him would have been unusual."
David Pearson, General Manager with the National Football Museum said: "We are very proud to have played our part in recognising Brian Clough as one of the greatest and most loved figures in the history of English football."
