This year’s National Football Museum Hall of Fame took place in London recently with one of the best line ups ever seen at the event. In fact such was the success of the evening, a special ‘Hall of Fame’ programme will be broadcast on Sky Sports this Tuesday (29 September) at 4.30pm
Ex Spurs superstar Ossie Ardiles, Manchester, Tottenham and England legend Teddy Sheringham, England 1966 hero George Cohen and West Ham and England great Sir Trevor Brooking were just some of the famous names to be inducted.
Gianfranco Zola was a last minute surprise guest, turning up to collect his trophy from when he was originally inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. He apologised to the audience for ‘taking so long to collect his award!’
The star studded line up was completed by Arsenal’s legendary player Frank Mclintock with another Arsenal legend, Marrianne Spacey collecting the award for Female Player. Ronnie Watson received the FA Football for All Award and Robbie Earle was the recepient of the Football Foundation Community Award. Posthumous awards were given to one of Sunderland’s greatest ever players Len Shackleton and to another Arsenal hero Len Bastin.
Other guests included Terry Venables, Keith Burkinshaw, Liam Brady, Garth Crooks, Gordon Taylor and Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport, Ben Bradshaw.
The London event followed on from a special Hall of Fame evening held in Manchester earlier in the month, which saw two great Manchester teams inducted, The Busby Babes Manchester United side of 1956 – 1958 and the Manchester City team of 1968-70. Awards were also given to managers Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and to Manchester City’s highly successful goalkeeper of the 1930’s and 1940’s, Frank Swift.
The Hall of Fame programme will be broadcast on Sky Sports 2 at 4.30pm on Tuesday 29 September, repeated on Sky Sports 1 at 11.00pm. It will also be shown on Wednesday 30 September at 3.00am (Sky Sports 2) and 7.30am (Sky Sports 3) and 10.00am (Sky Sports 2).
