National Football Museum encourages support for Laurie Cunningham event
The National Football Museum is delighted to voice its support for the Laurie Cunningham Memorial event being organised by Football Unites Racism Divides (FURD). The event will take place on Saturday 16 May 2009 at Sheffield United's Millennium Suite and will celebrate black football, and in particular its links to Sheffield. Laurie Cunningham played his historic England U21 game in 1977 at Bramall Lane.

Another key figure in the history of black football was Arthur Wharton, the world's first professional black footballer, who played in goal for Preston North End and Sheffield United in the 1880s and 1890s. FURD are planning a national project about Arthur Wharton, which the National Football Museum will be pleased to support.
