Pickles and the stolen World Cup

Meet Pickles the dog and discover how he sniffed out the stolen World Cup trophy in 1966. This fun, interactive storytelling session uses puppets and role play to explore our 1966 World Cup collection.

Performance Poetry

Each term we will host a football poetry session with a writer, poet, author, or illustrator. These fun sessions use the excitement of football to inspire your class and get them engaged with literacy.

Football and Local History

This session encourages pupils to discover more about Manchester’s rich footballing history. Pupils will have the chance to explore the origins of United and City, and learn more about the inspiring individuals and stories from both sides of Manchester.

Going to the Match

Explore the sights, smells and sounds of match days in the past. Pupils dress up in supporters’ clothing, investigate museum objects and use role play to describe the experience football provides. Football is a fun experience, but this session gets pupils involved and immerses them in the positive atmosphere of going to a match.

Journey back to the 1920s to discover the trailblazing Lily Parr and her role in making space for the future of women’s football.

Our creative writing session gives pupils a chance to become a football commentator for the day. Focusing on sports journalism and public speaking, young people learn the techniques of football commentary before having a go themselves.

Numbers are everywhere in football; every match provides stats; scouts study players speed and goal differences can decide championships. This session will help pupils develop foundational maths skills in football with our funded First Division resource.

Designer Balls

From pigs’ bladders to the ecosustainable footballs of the future, investigate how footballs have evolved. Inspired by the museum’s collection, pupils will have the opportunity to make their own football from recycled materials and put them to the test.
