MOTD 3

On 22 August 1964, Match of the Day was shown on our screens for the very first time. 60 years on, the BBC’s flagship highlights show is the longest-running football programme in the world, becoming a revered staple in millions of households across the country.

The National Football Museum has teamed up with BBC Archives to celebrate Match of the Day’s remarkable tenure, as well as casting an eye towards its future. See fascinating objects from the show’s history, including one of John Motson’s legendary sheepskin coats, original scripts and documents, and one of the cameras used to film colour broadcasts in the 1970s

Hear from iconic presenters, watch a fascinating short film charting the show’s evolution through the decades, and share your thoughts and memories on Match of the Day.

Match of the Day @ 60 is on display in our Midfield Space on the Match Gallery (level 1) from Friday 4 April to Sunday 27 July.
