This shirt was worn by the first ever scorer of a World Cup Final hat-trick.

Geoff Hurst was part of the England squad for our home World Cup in 1966. He was initially behind Tottenham Hotspur’s prolific striker Jimmy Greaves in the pecking order.

However, Greaves was injured in the final group game against France, and the West Ham forward took his chance, scoring the winning goal against Argentina in the quarter-final.

Though Greaves recovered for the final, manager Alf Ramsey named an unchanged side.It proved to be a masterstroke.

Hurst levelled he scores with a header, scored a controversial second in extra time – a shot which was deemed to have crossed the line by the linesman – and an emphatic third in the game’s dying seconds, ensuring England’s 4-2 triumph.

Hurst thus ended the tournament with four goals to his name. For decades, he was the only player to have scored a World Cup Final hat-trick, until France forward Kylian Mbappé repeated the feat in 2022.
