Are these the most controversial football boots in our collection?

Many players personalise their boots to feature their names, numbers, or their loved ones. In 2020, Trent Alexander-Arnold used his pair to show his support for a global social movement.

These boots were worn amidst the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, sparked by the murder of George Floyd by a serving police officer in Minneapolis. The killing provoked outrage, first in the States and then in other countries, such as the United Kingdom.

During this time, the country was still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Premier League football had only just returned – with strict restrictions – in June.

These boots were worn by the full-back during a fixture against Everton in June 2020, Liverpool’s first competitive game since the resumption of football.

They serve as a powerful reminder of the wider movement, which was about enacting, as Trent himself said, meaningful change.
